(PM) – On Sunday night, the White House announced that Turkey will be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria.
In the statement, the White House stated that the United States armed forces will not be involved or support the operation. The statement also said that Turkey will be responsible for all ISIS fighters in the area captured over the past two years.
Currently, over 1,000 U.S. troops are deployed in the northeastern region of Syria and will leave the area.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan previously expressed frustrations over the United States’ close relationship with the Kurds on the Syrian border. Erdoğan claimed that the Kurds are linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, a designated terrorist group.
