(PM) – An improvised explosive device detonated in the New Bilibid Prison, which is known for holding ‘violent extremist offenders’, at 10 AM local time on Friday. The prison is in Muntinlupa City, Philippines.
The prison houses convicted Abu Sayyaf and Maute group members. The blast occurred while clearing operations were ongoing, according to GMA Network.
The National Capital Region Police Office state that two hand grenades and two blasting caps were found in the area of the explosion.
No one was injured in the incident. It is unclear what caused the incident.
Authorities are clearing operations inside the NBP to remove illegal materials, such as drugs, weapons, and sex toys.
