(PM) — Ric Ocasek, the head singer of The Cars, was discovered lifeless in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, law enforcement sources told the New York Post. He was 70 years old.
Ocasek was found unconscious and unresponsive at around 4:14 p.m. inside his Gramercy Park home by his estranged wife, Paulina Porizkova, sources stated.
As NBC New York reports, the musician was found Sunday afternoon after police reacted to a call of an unconscious male at a Manhattan townhouse. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
According to NYC’s Chief Medical Examiner … Ocasek died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In simple terms, that means he had heart disease caused by high blood pressure.
Pulmonary emphysema is also listed as a contributing circumstance to his death, and law enforcement sources tell us he had a history of cancer. His manner of death is now listed as of natural causes.
