With opening night slated for October 22nd, who could help fill out the roster in Boston?
The Current Celtics roster consist of the following players. Guards: Walker, Smart, Langford, Wanamaker, Waters, Brown, and Edwards. Forwards: Hayward, Tatum, Theis, and Ojeleye. Centers: Kanter, Williams III, and Porier.
That leaves one roster spot open for the taking. Weather they fill the spot via free agency, trades, or g league talent, here is the options the Celtics can explore.
There is a lot of bench player talent still left on the open market. Guys that shouldn’t cost a whole lot of money off of the MLE.
Kenneth Faried would be a strong forward who would help with the identity of defense off the bench. He won’t give you 20 points a night, but would be a solid role player, a Marcus Morris type player.
Jamal Crawford was a player the team looked at this time last season, but the rumor never came to fruition. He is still a dynamic scorer who likes to get his teammates in position to score. A solid second or third opting at either guard spot.
Carmelo Anthony is surprised he can’t make one team in the NBA. He recently said on his interview on First Take, ” Out of 30 teams, you mean to tell me I can’t make a 15-man roster?” While this signing would bring mixed reviews, it’s only proper that the 10 time all star gets one last shot at a championship.
One fan favorite option ( and my personal choice) would be to give the final spot to Tacko Fall. He would sell out arenas all over the league, while getting the valuable skills to become a big in the NBA. He can learn by competing with teammates and a couple of minutes a game.
He recently worked with Joel Embiid and Dikembe Mutumbo in his recent trip to his homeland of Senegal. “We worked on pretty much a lot of work on the post, and every now and then he would stop and try to show me some things and try to tell me about the game in the NBA.” he said about working with Embiid.
While he still is a rough prospect to say the least, there is a lot of time to go until training camp is said and done. With the right workouts and training, he could very well be a threat for the final roster spot.
Come October 22nd, the Celtics will have had explored their options, and made the choice that they think will best help their team to win, Let’s just hope that we see a Tacko Fall jersey on the NBA store.
