On June 30th, 2019 & into the early hours of July 1st the Israeli Air Force launched a series of air strikes over Damascus & Homs in Syria.
There were numerous reports of IAF aircraft over various parts of Lebanon in the moments leading up to the airstrike.
Explosions were then heard across parts of Damascus, with reports that Sahnaya in southern Damascus was hit along with Al Qasioun. At the same time, these explosions were heard over Damascus, S-200 batteries were fired around Homs. A position in Jomrayah was also hit according to Syrian locals. The attacks across Homs & Damascus were reported to have injured at least 13 SAA soldiers. According to the Syrian Observatory, a total of 15 people were killed, this includes 9 SAA soldiers & 6 civilians. The sites that were targeted in this latest round of air strikes are still coming out, but I can be said with reasonable confidence that the sites hit according to locals are, 3 locations in Homs, a location around Al Ksweh as a missile was reported to have been downed while flying at low altitude. Near Jumrayah an Iranian ammo site was reported to have been hit by the strikes. Some sources claim that Jamraya Scientific Institute was hit although this report is rather skeptical. Around Sahnaya it appeared as if some civilians were injured as there were reports of ambulances heading to the area not long after the strike. In addition to this, it has also been suggested that the SAA 91st brigade was targeted by the Israeli strikes. Mezzeh airbase was also allegedly targeted in the strike
Damascus does have a large number of AD units around the city providing good coverage also Homs does have good air cover
The strikes by the IAF are usually conducted from over Lebanon airspace & firing their missiles from jets into Syria from here, however a video emerged of missiles coming from the Mediterranean Sea, this leads to speculation did Israel use ship-based missiles to target Syria or have their aircraft come in from this angle in addition to firing from over Lebanon. Either way this strike represents a new tactic by the IDF traditionally strikes have been fairly limited targeted one or two locations in Damascus on T-4 airbase, but last nights strike show that they went after multiple targets in different locations.
After the strikes had started to quieten down, a report came out of Cyprus which showed that either an S-200 or S-300 missile had fallen into a part of Northern Cyprus while attempting to down targets. The missile is more likely to have been an S-200 fired from around Homs area.
