Due to my request for media access at the Trump Re-Election Rally in Orlando being rejected, I decided to watch the CBS stream of the rally.
They shouldn’t have denied my access. I would have had a hell of a time and even joined in on the CNN sucks chants. The whole affair was boring on TV, but in person, I would have fed off the energy with the vibe of Homestead Speedway. I say this as someone who has been to a Trump rally and NASCAR events at the Homestead Speedway before. These rallies feel more like sports spectacle than a political event.
Trump has perhaps built up the oddest coalition slash fandom in political history- a voting block that includes; elderly Cuban men, blonde soccer moms, Ben Shapiro wannabes, the blacks for Trump guy, urban cowboys, and Marco Rubio somehow.
I am not sure what to make of the rally, it just seems like a bit of fun for the President, his ideal environment. How can I say anything of relevance when the whole affair was nothing but spectacle and sport?
