(PM) – A stabbing attack injures and kills multiple people in the area of Tokito Daiichi Park in Noborito-Shinmachi town of Kawasaki City, Japan.
At least 19 people have been injured in total, most of whom are children. NHK also reports that one person is in critical condition. Two people have died in the incident. 13 of the injured are elementary schoolgirls, ages 6 and 7, the New York Times reports. The schoolgirls were on their way to their elementary school before the mass stabbing occurs.
The suspect, of 40-50 years old, reportedly went on a rampage at the bus stop with two knives before stabbing himself in the neck. The New York Times confirms that the suspect has now died, after being apprehended in custody.
Kawasaki City is an urban area located in between Tokyo and Yokohama. The city has a population of nearly 1.5 million people. The stabbing occurred at Tokito Daiichi Park, which is about 200 meters from Noborito station.
United States President Trump is currently in Japan. Yesterday, Trump held a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.
