(PM)- Those living in the eastern half of the United States may need to break out the A/C and shorts for this memorial day weekend as hot and humid conditions are expected. For anyone living in the west, you may need to keep the sweatshirt out for a little longer. Here is the Memorial Day forecast this weekend.
Kicking off the end of the workweek, a big ridge is expected to set up over the Gulf Coast states. This ridge will help pump warm and moist air into the eastern half of the country for the weekend.
This means the west coast is cut off from the warm air and will have below normal temperatures.
Friday’s Forecast

On Friday, the southeastern portion of the country will be scorching into the upper 80s and low 90s, a few degrees above normal. The rest of the country will generally be in the 50s and 60s.
It will be stormy across the northwestern part of the country as a weak low pressure overspreads the area with light rain.
Saturday’s Forecast

Saturday will nearly a carbon copy of Friday temperature wise. The Florida panhandle may flirt with triple digits. Most of the country will sit in the upper 60s to 70s at least.
The stormy pattern continues in the northwest, keeping the region cloudy and cool, while most other regions are dry. Portions of the upper midwest may experience a shower or a rumble of thunder later in the day.
Sunday’s Forecast

Sunday will be much warmer and muggier especially for the eastern seaboard because of the strengthening ridge. Coastal New England will flirt with 90 degrees, while the west coast will struggle to make it into the 60s. The rest of the country will generally be around the same temperatures as the previous two days. The southeast will be in the 90s and central portions of the country will range from the mid-60s further north to the mid 80s further south.
More rain is expected for areas in the Northwest U.S. as an upper level low will dive into California. This will provide much of the west coast with rain. A weak low pressure is also expected to develop in the Midwest and spread rain in that region and further east towards New England.
Memorial Day Forecast
Memorial day will be a great day for the west coast and the eastern half of the country. The low pressure in California will get kicked out allowing a warmup for the beaches of the west coast into the 60s and 70s. The rest of the country will experience temperatures similar to the rest of the weekend. The west will be the coolest in the 50s with the east is in the 70s and 80s. Isolated 90 degrees temperatures are expected in the southeast.

As for rainfall, the upper low that was stationed in California the previous day will have strengthened and traversed east. Due to this, up to an inch of rain is to be expected for the upper mid-west.
