(PM) – On Sunday night, an explosion was heard in the Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq.
Iraq’s Ministry of Defense Spokesman, Yehia Rasool, confirmed that a katyusha rocket hit Baghdad’s Green Zone without causing any casualties. This attack comes just four days after Washington ordered all non-essential personnel to leave Iraq due to increasing tensions with Iran.
The rocket landed less in close vicinity to the U.S. Embassy, according to an Iraqi military spokesman. A similar attack occurred in December 2018, when Trump was visiting the area.
According to Rasool, the military is investigating the incident and it is believed to have been fired from east Baghdad, home to Iran-backed Shiite militias. The rocket reportedly hit an abandoned owned by a security company near the U.S. embassy.
