(PM) — British billionaire Sir Philip Green has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault in Arizona.
Katie Surridge, a pilates instructor at the luxury Canyon Ranch resort, told police that Sir Philip ‘spanked and grabbed her backside up to 10 times’ during classes he attended in 2016.
Ms. Surridge reported the matter and received reassurance from Sir Philip that ‘it wouldn’t happen again’.
Sir Philip owns a £2.3m property at the resort and is married to Tina Green with whom he has two children.
In 2018, during another pilates class, Ms. Surridge alleged that Sir Philip “wraps his hands around my waist and then grabs my butt cheek and just puts his hand there and just holds it there as he’s hugging me,”
Ms. Surridge alleges that he then went on the pat her stomach and make “inappropriate comments”.
Sir Philip, who lives in Monaco is chairman of the Arcadia Group which owns a number of UK high street clothing stores.
He was awarded a Knight Bachelor in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2006 ‘For services to the retail industry’, after being recommended by the then Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Since then, he has become embroiled in a number of controversies which resulted in the UK Parliament calling for his knighthood to be ‘reviewed’ in 2018.
Prima County’s attorney Office confirmed that Sir Philip had been charged with the offences which carry up to 30 days jail on each count, a $500 fine and probation.
Sir Philip is expected to attend a hearing in Arizona on June 19th.
